چکیده

Abstract We present results on the properties of extreme gas outflows in massive ( M * ∼ 10 11 ⊙ ), compact, starburst (star formation rate, SFR∼ 200 yr −1 ) galaxies at z = 0.4–0.7 with very high star surface densities (Σ SFR 2000 kpc −2 ). Using optical Keck/HIRES spectroscopy 14 HizEA galaxies, we identify maximum velocities 820–2860 km s . High-resolution allows us to measure precise column and covering fractions as a function outflow velocity characterize kinematics structure cool phase T 4 K). find substantial variation absorption profiles, which likely reflects complex morphology inhomogeneously distributed, clumpy intricacy turbulent mixing layers between cold hot phases. While these values have uncertainties, they suggest that capable ejecting large amounts will substantially impact future evolution.

Starburst–driven galactic outflows

We propose a model of starburst–driven galactic outflows whose dynamics depends on both radiation and thermal pressure. Standard models of thermal pressure–driven winds fail to explain some key observations of outflows at low and high redshift galaxies. We discuss a scenario in which radiation pressure from massive stars in a stellar population drive a shell of gas and dust. Subsequent supernov...

Dust outflows from starburst galaxies

We present submillimeter SCUBA images of the nearby, starburst galaxies NGC 253, NGC 4631 and M82 (primarily at wavelengths of 450 and 850 μm). The edge-on orientation of our targets, in conjunction with the resolution of the instrument (15′′ FWHM at 850 μm), allows us to probe the optically-obscured centre and resolve the minor-axis superwind from the main disk. For NGC 253 and M82, we detect ...

QPO frequencies and mass-outflow rates in black hole powered galactic microquasars

For all available pseudo-Schwarzschild potentials, we provide a non-self-similar model of coupled accretion-outflow system in connection to the Quasi Periodic Oscillation (QPO) of the black hole powered galactic microquasars and the emergence of barionic jets out of these objects. We use the vertically integrated 1.5 dimensional model to describe the disc structure where the equations of motion...

Kinematics and Structure of the Starburst Galaxy NGC 7673

The morphology and kinematics of the luminous blue starburst galaxy NGC 7673 are explored using the WIYN 3.5m telescope. Signs of a past kinematic disturbance are detected in the outer galaxy; the most notable feature is a luminous ripple located 1.55 arc minutes from the center of NGC 7673. Sub-arc second imaging in B and R filters also reveals red dust lanes and blue star clusters that deline...

The nearest extreme starburst : bubbles , young star clusters , and outflow , in NGC 3256

In this work we report, for the extreme starburst in the IR merger NGC3256: (i) The detection of 4 galactic bubbles (using ESO NTT and HST WFPC2 Hα– images). These shells would be associated with previous SNe explosions. (ii) The first analysis of the spatial distribution of young star clusters (YSCs) candidates shows that more than 90 per cent of them are located in a complex starburst structu...
